About a year ago we caught wind of a ridiculous trend called “Hajwalah” or “Tafheet” in which rich Saudi kids drift stock Camrys and BMWs among traffic on the desert highways. Roman Gavras must have too and he ran with the idea, creating a commentary on feminism and middle eastern youth culture for M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls”

Over a year ago we sat down with Real J. Wallace and BAM CIRCA 86, at Pokéz to discuss Brother Nature‘s Fresh Squeezed Lemonade mix tape. Since then they’ve continued to put in work and put out some seriously authentic tracks. I’m not a music critic, let alone a hip-hop critic but I know good when hear it and Real is still at it. In correspondence with his latest digital release, “The J∆hFather of So(u)l Cal,” Real J. Wallace explains, in the short film below, the music’s correlation with the Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway (or ‘the 94′ as most San Diegan’s know it by).
Real’s laid back lyrical grooves combined with early 70′s breakbeats create a really unique, positive vibe that defines the ‘Soul Cal’ sound.
